Subaru WRX tS

The 2025 Subaru WRX tS, priced at $46,875, aims to fill the void left by the iconic STI, blending rally-inspired performance with daily practicality. Powered by a 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four engine, it delivers 271 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque through a slick six-speed manual and all-wheel drive.

While the powertrain remains unchanged from other WRX trims, the tS shines with STI-tuned adaptive dampers, offering Comfort, Normal, and Sport modes that reduce body roll by 30% and pitch by 55% compared to the TR trim. Gold-painted Brembo brakes (six-piston front, two-piston rear) and Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires on 19-inch satin gray wheels enhance stopping power and grip, achieving 0.97 g on the skidpad.

The tS accelerates to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds, slightly lagging behind competitors like the Honda Civic Type R due to its narrow powerband and clutch damper, which can bog launches. However, its precise steering and balanced chassis make it a joy to toss into corners, with active torque vectoring ensuring stability. The interior features a new 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, Recaro seats with blue accents, and a vibrant Galaxy Purple Pearl exterior option, though the infotainment system feels sluggish.

While not a full STI, the tS offers a compelling mix of performance and livability, with a quieter, more refined ride than past WRXs. Its $10,000 premium over the base model is justified by upgraded hardware, but some may miss the STI’s raw edge. For enthusiasts seeking an all-weather, manual-equipped sports sedan, the tS is a worthy contender, though rivals like the Toyota GR Corolla offer fiercer thrills.

This not-quite-an-STI gets 3.5 Lambos.
