The Mazda Miata has been with us for a quarter century and the 2016 MX-5 Miata is, arguably, the best yet. A sharper, more aggressive looking car, this remains one of the “funnest” cars you’ll ever drive. This is a pure car, with a great feel, outstanding handling, and just the right amount of power. Throw it into corners and drive it like you’re wearing it. It’s fun, but has a noisy cabin with the top up or town…and who wants to drive a Miata with the top down?
The Dodge Challenger is enjoying great popularity. It’s a car with a rich history that reaches back nearly 50 years. When it comes to American muscle cars, the Challenger is iconic. But there’s more than one Dodge Challenger model. Ed Curran takes a look at the Challenger, its appeal, the lure of the Hellcat, the excitement this car creates.
Let’s face it, there’s a reason why the CX-5 does so well for Mazda. This is a small, fun, SUV that gets the job done. The Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring edition with all wheel drive will run you just over $30,000, loaded up with some nice extras. Looking for a RAV 4, Honda CR-V or a Ford Escape. The CX-5 deserves a test drive.
There are a lot of bad drone videos out there. This ain’t one of them. A lot of drone videos depend on altitude and weak music. It’s worn thin as we become more accustomed to aerial photography. Colin Hinkle’s Soaring Badger Productions‘ videos are a nice combination of good flying, great shot composition, interesting places, nice use of available light and appropriate music.
I’ve seen it all. GAC, the Chinese automaker, is showing a concept vehicle at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit that has a fish tank arm rest. Concept cars are partially test platforms, partially designed to measure public reaction and always designed to pull people into the booth. A lot of people were stopping to look and to learn more about Guangzhou Motors and their automotive aquarium. If such a car were built, I’m wondering how my fish would do if parked outside overnight in January in Chicago? But, who am I to judge? GAC can have fish in their car. After all, the Kia Soul has hamsters.
It’s the fourth generation of an outstanding sports car. Not a powerful tear-straight-ahead gazillion horsepower with tons of steel muscle car. A sports car. The kind of car you dream about. Cutting the corners of a twisty backroad with the top down or making the most of track day over a long weekend. The 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata is on the floor of the NAIAS in Detroit and, although we’ve seen plenty of pictures since its reveal some time ago, we can’t believe how much better it looks in person. A simple 2.0 roadster in a more beautiful and sophisticated package than ever, interior and exterior. It’s a bit smaller and a lot lighter. It’s redesigned and it reconnects. The big question is not, “Is this the car you want?” The question is, instead, “What color would you like?”
Ford unleashed their newest track toy, the GT350R, at NAIAS in Detroit. It was unveiled in the presence of a couple of its elders. Older, but outstanding looking cars. But the NEW GT is beauty incarnate. The whole body is made of carbon fiber, that lightweight frame houses an engine capable of producing 600+ horsepower. Every line on the GT looks stylish yet obviously has a purpose, DOWNFORCE!
The Mini Superleggera! It was unveiled at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in 2014 and now it has graced the North American International Automotive Show with its presence this year. The Mini Superleggera has a contemporary design with a classic feel. It features materials such as leather, aluminum, and even black chrome! It’s obvious both inside and out, this car was made to be driven and driven fast.
The 2016 Chevy Volt can go 50 miles on battery alone before sipping from its gas tank. The Volt’s concept stays the same though. When it runs low on electricity the gas engine starts up and extends its range to 420 miles. Two eight inch LCD screens add to its high tech feel. One in front of the driver, inside the gauge cluster, and one in the middle of the dash. Chevy says you should expect a combined 41mpg. The car is sleeker looking and lighter, too, with batteries that weigh less.
